So, you already have a few affiliate links on your blog. You link to Amazon and a few other places and make a little extra income – or maybe you makes thousands or millions from affiliate links. (Yes, many bloggers earn significant income from affiliate links).
Why Affiliate Programs Rock
Unless you are making thousands a month from affiliate links, I bet there is more you can do. First off, affiliate links are awesome. You try a product and love it, you apply to that company’s affiliate program, write an article about it, mention it in passing, etc. and when people click on your link, you make money without having to do anything. If you’re not already putting affiliate links everywhere you can without being spammy, you should. Say you do a recipe – link to the ingredients on one or multiple websites. Link to the pans, dishes and decor with affiliate links.
If you’re not already using Amazon.com, I recommend it. Amazon carries such a wide variety of products, generally for good prices. Your readers can click over and buy the specialty ingredient you recommend for $10 and while they are there, they add $100 worth of other items to their cart and you get a commission on all of that. Win-win.
What Stinks About Affiliate Programs
The downside to affiliate programs, like Amazon, is that there are almost always time limits. Amazon has a 24 hour window. You could refer someone to a great product. They think about it for a few days and then buy it. But, guess what? You don’t get the money. You tell them about a great supplement and they love it and put it on Subscribe & Save and get it every month. Guess what? You don’t get paid for that either. Most other affiliate programs have a longer window, usually from a few weeks to 3 months. Wouldn’t you rather get paid over and over for telling someone about a product?
Network Marketing Turns Affiliate Programs Biggest Weakness into their Biggest Strength.
With network marketing, you find a product you love. You sign up for their program and then usually you have to commit to buying a certain amount of the product yourself every month. This is biggest con of network marketing. This means you probably aren’t going to want to join 20 different network marketing companies and paste them all over your blog. In fact, many network marketing companies don’t like you to promote more than one MLM on your blog (which I really don’t understand).
Why are Network Marketing companies good for bloggers?
You can do it online and you don’t need inventory. This gives you a whole new option for an income stream. Think of this as a fantastic affiliate program. Most people don’t think of it as an affiliate program, but it is basically an affiliate program on steroids. Why on steroids? It pays well and keeps on paying. It’s not just a one-time purchase and then you never see them again. Once they click on your link and sign up, they are on your team forever. You get credit for all their purchases forever and there are all sorts of bonuses you can get by having a big team. I make several thousand a month from this and it just keeps growing and growing.
Another advantage of network marketing companies is that you will have someone over you who will help you and wants you to succeed, because as your business grows, their business grows.
What Affiliate Program Do I Recommend?
If you have read my blog at all, you know I am in love with doTERRA essential oils. I genuinely love them and use them all the time in my daily life. I have complete confidence in the company and their compensation plan is AWESOME! My paycheck from doTERRA keeps getting bigger and bigger every month. I’m getting close to making a full time income just from doTERRA, let alone my ads and other affiliate programs.
How do you choose the best Network Marketing company for you?
#1 – You should love the product and genuinely use the product and honestly be able to talk about it and tell everyone how much you love it. In general, network marketing products are superior to other products. They just are. If the products were crappy, people wouldn’t buy them. If you don’t already have experience with the product, you will probably want to try it out for yourself first and make sure you really like the product.
#2 – You should have 100% confidence in the company and their compensation plan. Do independent research on the company and make sure they are honest and that it’s not just a select few who make it big with their company.
#3 – The company should be blogger-friendly. There are a few network marketing companies you can’t do online. For example, I did Melaleuca for a while. Great product, but in order to sign someone up you HAD to do a one hour class with them. You could do it via Skype, etc. but you had to do a class. I so don’t have time to do that as a blogger. Most of the companies nowadays are in the 21st century and have a website you can send your readers to, but you may have to pay a monthly fee for it (Pampered Chef does this).
Last year as I was working to win a trip to Jamaica through doTERRA, I looked at the leaderboard a lot. I couldn’t figure out how I had so many signups but others had a lot more. After researching the Wellness Advocates at the top of the list, I realized that all five of them had large blogs. doTERRA is absolute an awesome fit for bloggers. It’s not just me that has been very successful at blogging about doTERRA.
What is my Story?
You can read more about my story on my main doTERRA business page here. I have never signed anyone up in person and never taught a class. I make several thousand dollars every month from doTERRA. If I keep getting signups at the rate I have been, I will be Diamond by the fall. The average Diamond makes $203,000 a year. This is a network marketing company that you don’t have to teach a class. This is why it can be so much like an affiliate program (even though technically, it isn’t). It allows me to be a blogger first and a doTERRA Wellness Advocate second.
doTERRA May Help your Blog Grow
I noticed an increase of traffic on my blog after I started talking about doTERRA. With over one million users and lots of people thinking about doTERRA, you may benefit from increased traffic from people hungry to learn more about essential oils. You may not get signups by having existing users on your blog, but when you post about doTERRA and pin it, those pins tend to do well and people may follow you to learn more or see other fun things on your blog.
Bonus – if you sign up for doTERRA under me, I will work hard to make your blog grow, because as your blog grows, I benefit too. I will be happy to give you blogging advice, pin your posts to my Pinterest account with over 50K followers, share on facebook, etc.
Aren’t Network Marketing Companies Bad?
A reputable MLM/Network Marketing company can be a win-win for everyone. Instead of MLM’s paying huge corporations millions of dollars to do their advertising, they pay normal people like you to advertise their products.
Doesn’t buying from an MLM mean the product costs more? NO! The company saves money on advertising, cuts out the middle men and people like you can make money for advertising their products – not some faceless corporation or TV station.
Aren’t MLM’s just out to make money? Of course. So is every business. Why else would they be in business? Every company is trying to make money. But instead of the money going to stores and advertising, the money goes in to the hands of normal people, like YOU! This empowers you to create home-based business opportunities.
Are there bad MLM’s out there? Sure. There always will be and you should stay away from those, of course. Pyramid schemes by definition mean you are paying money but not getting a real product. All Pyramid Schemes are MLM’s but not all MLM’s are Pyramid Schemes. Got it?
How can you make money with doTERRA?
When you sign up for doTERRA, you will get an affiliate link to put in product review posts, use as ingredients in recipes, put on your sidebar, etc. When you get someone to sign up, you get 20% of what they buy for the first 60 days. The smallest kit is worth 110 points, so that means you get $22 per signup, paid one week later. This is called the Fast Start Bonus. Some people buy more when they sign up and some buy less, although that’s not very common. After the first 60 days then there is a 2-7% commission plus the opportunity for several bonuses. My favorite is the Power of 3 bonus. With this you get a $50 monthly bonus for having three people under you that place a monthly order, $250 a month if those three have three and $1500 a month if those people have three. This is why it’s such a good affiliate program. There is a 68% retention rate, which blows other MLM’s out of the water. These 68% of people order from occasionally to monthly or more often. It’s not like Amazon where you only have 24 hours. With doTERRA, they are your customers for life.
How much work will it be?
As with anything, you get what you put in to it. I work on my blog what seems like full time, but is probably around 20-30 hours a week but with everything else going on, I work in most of my free time. (I’m sure many of you know how that goes). I mostly focus on growing my blog to get traffic to my blog to earn the ad revenue and get them interested in doTERRA. I would say I spend 5-10 hours a week on average working on just the doTERRA side of my business. I send a lot of emails and answer emails and write articles occasionally. If you want to grow your business even faster, you can do the traditional route and sign people up in person so that may take a little more of your time. You could also put minimal effort in to it and see results.
How will I know what to do?
When you sign up with me, please let me know that you are a blogger and are interested in signing others up. Then I will start you on my business training email series where I will tell you all about how I have built my doTERRA business. There are lots of links to training, videos and articles that I think will help you learn how to maximize your income. One quick idea is to talk in a blog post about how you use the oils with a story and personal example and link to a landing page where you talk all about doTERRA with a link for them to sign up. I will give you examples of this page and help you write this page if you want.
I will help you succeed
I am available to you as your mentor. It is in my best interest to help you grow your business so I will do what I can to help you. Since I am a blogger myself, I will do what I can to help grow your blog. I will pin things for you (I have over 50K Pinterest followers) and do my best to get traffic to your blog.
Where Do I Start?
I recommend you start by signing up with a doTERRA Wholesale account and learn to use and love the products. (See below). To learn more about the business side of doTERRA in more detail, please read my Work From Home article.
